Luggage Good. Baggage Bad.
I am all about the packing these days. We booked so long ago, and we have had so much time to plan, that every detail has been considered. Nothing has been left unexamined. No take along item has gone untested.
I plan to write about some of the products I have chosen, including things I tested and rejected. Cause that’s part of the fun. The endless planning.
Don’t misunderstand. This is not S.O.P. for me. I have had people call me on a Monday asking if I want to go to Paris in 10 days. No planning. No time. Nada. This is just different that’s all.
So I am packing enough clothes to fit in a carry on. I might not even carry it on. But it’s all I want to carry. That’s absolutely as much luggage as I am willing to deal with. I took quite a bit more with me for two weeks in Japan. And the same can be said of Croatia (Berlin/Prague/London too). In fact, sitting here thinking about it I am a little appalled at how much luggage I took on those trips.
I just have to picture myself getting a train, or public transit, hauling a giant suitcase full of clothing….that’s quite enough. Not interested. No need for all the stuff.
So carry on it is. Its a Briggs & Riley old style number. I bought it for shorter trips awhile back. I invested in Briggs & Riley many years ago and I got rid of all my cheap luggage. I have been a lot of places with my luggage and neary a blemish in site. Quality, expensive luggage is never a bad investment. It just lasts.
Here is my trusty companion. I’ve done the test pack. It all fits!

This is great! I look forward to following your adventure!
Um, I’m pretty sure I’m going to enjoy your blog Pretti Kathi, but am a bit perplexed by your definition of carry on luggage !! I just got my tape measure out, and yes, my suspicions that my regular suitcase is the same as yours (B&R, same measurements) have been confirmed. PK, I hate to disabuse you, but this ain’t carry on! I’d like to see you lift that baby into an overhead bin!! 21.5 x 15.5 x9 …. that’s what AC call carry on. Now, this is an amazing suitcase that does a good imitation of a black hole. You think it’s full, then you do up those straps over the contents and – boom – room for more shoes, your Tilley hat, binoculars and a bottle of wine 🙂 I’ve lived out of one for over a month – though if I didn’t have my 3 pairs of Tilley knickers it might not be possible ….. Happy Packing girl !!!
I knew I was going to called out on that one! My bag is an older version and smaller. Just barely meets requirements. Its not about carrying it on – its about carrying IT. I just want small!
